Skin Damage and Ulceration
Long term high pressure in the leg veins, sometimes as a result of varicose veins or DVT,
may cause damage to the skin around the ankle. There may be an unsightly brown discolouration,
or inflammation (venous eczema) of the skin. If left untreated, this skin damage may progress
to painful and disabling venous ulceration. The Consultants at the Warwickshire Vein Clinic
are experts in the management of the skin damage associated with veins, including ulceration.
After careful assessment, they will be able to advise on the best course of treatment, which may
involve a combination of treating the underlying vein problem and specialist high compression hosiery
or bandages to promote skin healing.
