The Consultants

The Warwickshire Vein Clinic is a partnership between three consultant vascular surgeons who have worked closely over many years. Their aim is to use the latest techniques combined with years of surgical experience to deliver the highest standards in medical care:

Varicose Vein Surgery.

This is performed under general anaesthetic, generally as a day case procedure. It may be recommended for patients who have particularly large varicose veins, and is a highly effective treatment in these cases. Under anaesthetic, a small incision is made in the groin or behind the knee and the main connection of the varicose veins to the deep veins is tied off. Other lumpy varicose veins are removed using small incisions. After the operation, your leg will be bandaged and then you will be asked to wear a support stocking day and night for the first week, and then daily for a further week. You will be encouraged to take short daily walks.

Some bruising is usual following surgery but generally patients are able to return to normal activity after 1-2 weeks. You are not advised to travel by air for 6 weeks following your operation.

Your Consultant will have further discussions with you on the details of surgical treatment at your consultation.
